South Dakota
It may be hard to believe that American children still live in such devastating conditions such as dirt floors, no electricity and often faulty plumbing. But in many places, these young lives are all around us. For these kids, it means the world to receive any amount of help that enriches their lives and their education.
Upon recognizing the extreme poverty and lack of sufficient medical attention provided to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Oglala Lakota County, South Dakota, the Thomas Gaiter Foundation has made Pine Ridge a priority. Ongoing donations and communication with Indians on the reservation has expanded view on the help that these Indians need to survive. The Thomas Gaiter Foundation has since made numerous donations to members of the reservation who need financial assistance to help pay for college.
